Sort of successful

So Nora is well on her way to being toilet trained. Well, sort of. We have the peeing in the toilet down.

She stays dry all night.

But for some reason, we have not been that successful at the all important pooing in the toilet.

I'm trying to not stress about it. Just let her go at her own pace. But I'm also kind of super ready to have number 2 be a breeze.

But at least I did not have to buy diapers for the first time in 13 years. That's certainly something to celebrate, don't ya think?

  1. Definitely worth a celebration. Perhaps a panty parade is in order? lol, But what I want to know is how do you get them trained at night? I'm having a hard time with this with Russ.

  2. Megan-with my kids, at least, they either just did it on their own or it took a while and we had to use pullups. We put Nora to bed around 7, and then we take her potty before we go to bed. And she wakes up dry. Eventually we'll probably be able to stop taking her to the bathroom before we go to bed. Our kids that took longer, we would have had to take them to the bathroom at least two times, once before bed and then once in the middle of the night. I've read that if you do this for a week, set an alarm and everything, it will solve it because it teaches the brain/bladder connection to wake up.

Our pediatriction told me that several factors play into it-1. some children actually produce more pee, so it's harder for them to hold it. 2. Some children have a smaller bladder-although I've read you can increase their bladder size by making sure they drink a ton. 3. Some children's bladders aren't communicating properly to the brain that it's time to wake up.

I have one child who I think is a combination of all 3 of these and another one who is similar. It has not been easy. So I'm not sure that there is always much a parent can do except wait for them to grow out of it. Or set the alarm and get up with them and see how that goes. We've just invested a lot in pullups:)

  4. Soooo worth a celebration!!!

I told Ari just yesterday that I'm ready to be done buying diapers and that he's my first child to be 3 and still in diapers!!
Then we talk about him being a big boy and going in the potty like the rest of the family.. He could really care less!!!!!!
Just last night he looked at me and said mom I'm peeing on the floor(it was after his bath)
Mine(the first 2) usually start staying dry during the night before they are even in undies!

    **side note**
Amy my bread is very crumbly(messy) when I slice it. Is that just how it's suppose to be or am I still doing something wrong?? Everyone is a big fan of it and Chris no longer ever wants store bought but the mess factor is bugging me...

  5. You may be done with the diapers, but as I was told when I was celebrating the end of diapers, "With all those girls, diapers are nothing compared to the years of feminine hygeine products!!!!"
