I wish it was the 1950's.
Ever feel like you live in the wrong decade?
Ever wish you could go back in time and experience a different way of life?
I imagine most of my life would have been exactly the same in 1950 as it is now.
Stay at home mom who:
Has lots of kids
Bakes her own bread
Has dinner on the table when hubby gets home.
Cleans.
Makes the children's lunches.
Breakfast on the table every morning.
Active at church.
Some college but gave it up when babies started arriving.
Loves to chat with the neighborhood ladies.
But I would not have been a mom who:
Had to say, "who are you texting?"
Put your DS away.
It's time to get off the Wii.
Drove 800 miles a day ferrying her kids everywhere.
Shook her head at the how short skirts have become.
Had to put a passcode on the computer and the television to protect her kids from smut. (yes, I said smut!)
Of course I probably would have complained that Rock n' Roll was too loud and I would have had a neat and tidy bomb shelter built to withstand any missile crisis. I would have set out the bottles for the milk man every week and put aside everything else to watch Ed Sullivan.
But I would have done it in saddle shoes and the original skinny pants.
So yes, sometimes I feel like I was an adult in the wrong decade. And I guess that's just gonna have to be ok. Because I'm positive there is a reason I was born when I was.
So what decade would you like to live in? And don't worry, I will still be your friend if you say the 70's.

Way farther back than the 70's! WAY farther with the big dresses and corsets! That's when I feel like I should have been around....
ReplyDeleteAlso can't stand how short cloths are!!
I'm with you in the 50's! Gee..maybe it's because I'm in the middle of a conversation w/ our headmaster at kid's Christian school because my oldest was exposed to 'smut' on the internet by his teacher!! However unintentional it may have been, it is wrong! I'm quite sure I could get many more people to agree with me in 1950 than I can in 2010! "Get Me Outta Here!!" is how I feel most days! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the sounds from the late 30's- very early 40's. Music by big bands and Billie Holiday, the screen door--wooden with no spring to stop it from slamming--sound, an old AM radio, warm humid weather, the sounds of a streetcar and trains. I have a theory on this...someday I will tell you!!
ReplyDeleteI think I would love to live in the 1800's, with wagons and bonnets and everything. I think it would be so cool. I get to dress with the cool fancy dresses, but I get more freedom being a girl (I think), we get to talk more laid bakc a lot, and we get to be on a farm, if we live in the county.
ReplyDeleteDid the makeover crew "make over" your fabulous kitchen curtains with the thrift store fabric? I really like those ones! You are adorable, gorgeous mama! I would have to go with the 50's, too. Prim and proper enough for my liking, and, like you, same job description.

I'd say the 40's, because the dresses and the music was better, but I wouldn't have liked the war.
ReplyDeleteAs funny as it sounds I really liked the 80's! It seemed like life was so easy then. Life wasn't all about how fast you could get from here to there. Kids actually spent the summer playing real games in the yard till dark. I felt my parents weren't rushing here and there. I also think I would like the 50's. It just seems like it would be a fun time. I could totally see you in the 50's!
ReplyDeleteI wore saddle shoes!
ReplyDeleteYou look so slim and trim in this picture!
